Virginia, known for being the birthplace of more US presidents than anywhere else in the country and for being the home of more battlefields from the Civil War than anywhere else, is also home to some sights which do not exist anywhere else in the world.
Staunton, Virginia is home to the only indoor recreation of a Shakespearean Theater known to exist in the world. Blackfriers Playhouse will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2011 with special performances of well-loved plays such as Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew and Henry VIII, just to name a few. These performances are executed by a troupe of world-renowned Shakespearean actors.
Deep within the recesses of Luray Caverns is the only stalacpipe organ known to exist in the world. The caverns, included on the Natural US Landmarks listing, offer a breathtaking experience walking past stalactite formations rising from the floor and stalacmite formations descending from heights as tall as 10 feet above the walkway. One of the seven natural wonders of the world is found in Virginia at Natural Bridge. This massive limestone formation towers 275 feet with a cross-span of 90 feet. Natural Bridge owes its preservation to the efforts of Thomas Jefferson.
